MEETINGS CANCELED

Tampa, Florida - August 9, 2002 - The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) has canceled meetings of its Joint Habitat Protection Advisory Panels, Technical Review Panel and User Review Panel that were scheduled to meet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 28, 2002 at the Tampa Airport Hilton 2225 North Lois Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33607.

These meetings will be rescheduled for the end of October 2002 and a press release announcing the dates and times will be sent at a later date.

The panels were to review the Intermediate Draft of the Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the Generic Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) Amendment in separate meetings. Due to delays in obtaining and analyzing the necessary data, the Councilís Contractor needed additional time to complete the document thus necessitating the postponement of the meetings.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is 1 of 8 Regional Fishery Management Councils that were established by the MSFCMA of 1976, as amended. The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council prepares fishery management plans and amendments that are designed to manage fishery resources to the 200-mile limit in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
